Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012 RTW

After my previous scathing review of Blumarine, I give you Dolce & Gabbana's beautiful baroque creations for Fall/Winter 2012 RTW.  Dolce & Gabbana have been giving consistent collections, but nothing yet has surpassed, or even matched, their virginal Spring/Summer 2011 show.  Finally, this season has done it.  Some people seem to be getting tired of Dolce & Gabbana recycling their looks, but I think this season has just enough regality and opulence to break through.  Or maybe it's just because I'm a huge fan of gold brocade.  It all started with look after look of stunning gold brocade, with intricate lace and smooth velvet.  This was definitely a show that benefited from the right accessories; the earrings and crown-like headpieces were just dripping glamour so majestic it made you want to sit straighter.
The brocade subsided for a while as lace and sheer fabric took the spotlight.  You'll also notice this season's silhouette is looser than previous seasons, keeping with the baroque theme.  There was one unattractive look consisting of a silk tee with "D&G" embroidered on it and ruffled bloomers shorts - completely out of place.
In a burst of colour, bright floral print was introduced, taking the place of the gold brocade earlier on.  I can just imagine myself walking through French gardens everytime I see these looks.
The show then entered a more demure point, but it wasn't without gold embellishment.
This prepped the eyes for a visual overload of floral prints and plump cherubs, but if that isn't enough, Dolce & Gabbana ended by overwhelming you in rich gold brocade once more.
Bow down.  The masters have arrived.

Watch the entire show here.

  1. oh..my...g*d....this is royalty version on the runway. The first group is so similar with Jessica Chastain's Alexander McQueen on the Oscars...my favorite are the French garden looks, hail to the flowers and brocades! So with that brocade boots...amazing....

    1. I almost thought Jessica somehow got her hands on a Dolce & Gabbana dress before their runway show, until I realized it was Alexander McQueen. And yes! Those boots gave me the exact same reaction. Just beautiful...I'd love to own them.

  2. Wow! This is just one of the most exquisite collections I have ever laid eyes on. I love the historical, European vibe added by the brocade and textures. Beautiful. I LOVE that white dress (picture # 6). :)

  4. You know I'm not a fan of D&G even if I own several pieces of this brand (but who doesn't own something from it?!). Btw, this collection was really gorgeus, maybe one of the best one cause it really express very well the essence of Sicily (a part of D&G DNA) and the essence of the brand itself, amazing!

  5. Hey i stumbled across your blog just by luck and now i am your newest follower!
i loved D&G collection this year, although they are not my fave designers in the whole world, this collection was so majestic, so intricately made, so baroque that i couldn't take my eyes off it, loved all the gold embellishments and crowns and jewels (they kind of reminded me of Chanel's Byzantine collection), and the floral ones were so fab, i am not a fan of floral in general but those prints were stunning.,
my only complain is about the versatility of those pieces i cant see them being worn in real life.

    1. It reminded me of that Chanel show too! I absolutely loved the decadence of that Chanel show, and it remains one of my favourite Chanel collections, so I was definitely swept away by Dolce & Gabbana's collection as well.

  6. I love this D&G collection! I saw the campaign pictures earlier, and they were amazing
I scrolled down on your blog before commenting on this, and I saw the Jil Sander collection, my god it's amazing! I believe that if I would touch any of the dresses it would fall apart, like a butterfly! It was a great one.
And did you get a chance to see the Jean Paul Gautier RTW collection yet? I just did and you got to check it out, it's great
