Looking Smart
I'm ten days into my summer, but I've already started preparing for my first year of university. As I will be moving away for university, one of the things I needed to do was get a spare pair of glasses, in case anything happens to the pair I have now. Currently, I own a pair of black Dolce & Gabbana glasses:
After years and years of wearing glasses, I've come to realize that a more rectangular frame seems to complement my face shape. I can somewhat pull off coloured frames, but they tend to look a bit severe, so I prefer black. However, despite these two guidelines that narrow down the selection significantly, finding the perfect pair of glasses is still no easy feat. Going into the eyewear store, I was definitely dreading searching through rows and rows of glasses, and being forced to find one that I would be willing to spend hundreds on. Amazingly, I found The One in less than half an hour. It was a pair of black and blue Tiffany & Co. glasses:
What attracted me to this pair was the pure simplicity of the side. I find that glasses nowadays are much too heavily decorated on the sides, drawing attention towards the glasses themselves, and away from the face. This pair of Tiffany's boasts a sophisticated, slim side, with a small, engraved heart near the temple. I instantly loved how unfussy it was, and how it was fun, but sleek. The colour too, is worth loving. The inside of the frame is made in Tiffany's signature baby blue, with just a hint of the blue peeking out at the temple, making it quirkier than an all-black pair of glasses. With a slight turn of the head, the elegant side of this is revealed, making me look smart, but stylishly so.

I loved reading this post because just a few weeks ago I also bought a new pair of glasses. Whilst I loved the kind of "geeky" larger frames, they simply don't work for me and I'm also better suited to this sort of rectangular frame. In the end I bought some from Oliver Peoples, but I was very close to getting a Tiffany pair, because like you I was sooo in love with the colour!

I agree, designers make the sides of glasses too detailed sometimes. I think your glasses are very chic.
ReplyDeletei wear glasses for 'magnetizing' things or something that are supposed to help with my migraines, i just think they look fun:)
ReplyDeleteYou're right those are very elegant. And I really like the detail on the side. Nice post

I agree with you. Glasses have become too ornate. I like the simple, sleek ones you've posted pictures of. Nice.
ReplyDeleteHow CUTE are those! Love anything with tiffany blue on it and these are adorable ... I can see why you love them! xoxo

Hi Angelica! You know, I think girls in glasses are so cute and I once wore a fake glasses in school look super cool, haha. I would pick the second one because of the color! xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. That's what I think about glasses too. The embellishments are great for label whores, but they're not usually flattering because they're distracting.
ReplyDeleteLovely selection!! I like the black with contrasting blue. Such a classic choice. I had a pair of rectangular Chanel glasses from a few years ago and I finally just got a new pair. I went with a larger frame this time, from Oliver People's. I am obsessed with them.....they should make an appearance on the blog soon, since I have not stop wearing them!!
ReplyDelete@Styleonthecouch: I tried a pair of "geeky" Chanel glasses, and although I thought it was an interesting look, I don't think I could pull-off the look full-time. The Tiffany colour combination certainly is appealing, but I'm sure your Oliver People's is a good one!
ReplyDelete@Dear Girl: If I happen to take any photos with my new glasses on, then you might be able to see them! :)
@Noelani: Oliver People's seems to be a popular label for eyewear! I have actually never heard of this label before...will check it out for sure!
