Monique Lhuillier Fall/Winter 2011 RTW

As some of you may know, I have recently added Monique Lhuillier onto my list of designers to follow, and so it works out wonderfully that stylemefab has requested a look at her Fall/Winter 2012 collection.
For Fall 2012, Lhuillier restricted herself to a small colour palette, but let herself free in the details.  She started off with mostly black outfits, all in a similar silhouette - modestly covered arms, with tapered hemlines stopping at the knee:
Then after a transition created by floor length dresses, Lhuillier dotted her collection with pops of red and metallics:
As Lhuillier's gowns came out, a lot of the attention rested around the shoulder area, then later shifted to the skirt area:
With this new limited colour palette, Lhuillier introduces a sensual, sultry undercurrent to her collection, and it's sure to attract some red carpet regulars.

Watch an abbreviated version of the show here.

  1. Her gowns are definitely my favorite! They would look fabulous on the red-carpet for the oscars! The red mini dress with bow belt is just too pretty :-) xoxoxoo

  9. Wow this collection is amazing. Maybe, sometimes, Lhuillier purposes the "same evening gowns" but I like her style and in this collection, as you told, she tries to add something more and, for me, to evolve her style. Beautiful!

  12. This is truly one of the most stunning collections I have ever seen! The fourth look is my favorite; but the rest of the pieces are just as elegant! :)

  13. I have to say I was very disappointed in Lhuillier's collection. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the sophistication of detailing, etc. I don't know it just felt very lackluster to me. Perhaps because last season I found my WOW piece and nothing can ever beat that piece for me. so I guess I had extremely high expectations.

  15. I really like this collection! It's romantic and feminine with the bow accents and soft, flowy fabrics, but it also has that "undercurrent of sultry" as you put it--with the pops of red; the sheer black pantyhose. And it has a definite glam feel, the gowns look totally red carpet worthy!

  17. @Madeleine: I actually understand exactly what you're saying. This collection didn't blow me away. I appreciate that she's trying something new with this limited colour palette, but some pieces did lose what makes her special. I'd sure like to know what that WOW piece from last season is!

  18. Absolutely, I actually have the picture on my blog all the way back in September under the "New York State of Mind" but let me describe the gown. I love this gown so much that a) it was a my computer screensaver for 5 months. b) I would make the organza white and wear it as my future wedding gown. But it was a drop waist ball gown with a nude corset bodice and a full red organza skirt. This was just my dream gown.
If you want to see the picture I provided a link to blog post with pic below.
