This is dress is full of rich textures, with the luscious velvet casually giving way to reveal the sheer chiffon. I absolutely love how those two textures are mixed to create a wonderfully demure dress. Obviously, this is not to be worn out on the streets, but I definitely appreciate the design aspect.

Mix it Up
All the hip, young, fashionable girls flock to Alexander Wang whenever they need easy, stylish pieces. Being an owner of a classic Alexander Wang t-shirt myself, I understand the appeal of his pieces. They drape in all the right places, and never fail to have Wang's signature sporty design. I spotted one of his dresses on a mannequin and practically ran over to check it out:

While I appreciate the way he designs, I'm not always a fan of the clothing itself. For me it's very hit or miss, but then in saying that, it's not 100% my style!
ReplyDeleteI do love the draping of this dress though :)

Such dresses are always great. I love it when one piece is not so very covering :)
ReplyDeleteLovely dress, so cute!
ReplyDeleteAmazing dress, it just... works! The drapery and the fabric are a fab combination

How incredibly gorgeous this dress is!! :)
ReplyDeleteSame for me. You cannot wear a dress like this on the street. You got to have somewhere special for it.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week-end. Thanks for your comment.
Yes, the sheer chiffon is fun! Although on the runway it seems to be actually see-through, in retail I believe there is a layer of fabric underneath.
ReplyDelete@jamie-lee: Funny you say that because I actually am not a huge fan of Alexander Wang. As I said, I understand the appeal and there are certain things I like, and certain things I don't (his Rocco bag for example!).
@M: Indeed, those are red velvet boots! Crazy, isn't it?
I actually really like this dress, I think they styled it horrible at the actual runway show. I have an Alexander Wang tee and it clings so nice, my only qualm is that it's a little too see through but thats my fault cause I have a white one, my sister got a green one that is so cool. I would kill for a A. Wang bag or shoes any day though
ReplyDeleteI love two things of this dress:
ReplyDeletethe drapes and the "asimmetric" made with the color. Inf act int his season every desigenr purposes something asimmetric and almost everyone use the drapes (also low cost stores...) to make the dresses "glamourous". But Wang adds the most improtant thing in fashion: creativity and originality. The color are amazing together and the final effect is amazing too!

Wang always does an original take on something. This being a prime example, the draping being in a different shape. I love it, the effect on a person must be incredible.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment!

Velvet can go wrong in so many ways... But I love this look. It's definitely fresh and has an OH LA LA appeal. Which I love.

@Eli: One of the reasons I love my Alexander Wang t-shirt too! It clings perfectly, and it feels like heaven everytime I put it on. Mine is a bit see-though as well, but it's black and I usually have a Vince tunic underneath.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I forgot to mention the asymmetrical aspect! Also, would like to say that the velvet is incredibly soft to the touch, and that there is indeed a skin coloured piece of chiffon underneath (I checked it out more closely today).
Man that's clever, that would be the most awesome grad dress ever. Perfect use of turtleneck and an off- the shoulder type dress with intricate draping, very interesting combo.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and commenting on my blog :)
That dress is amazing! and one of my fave colour combos at the moment.

That dress it great! But when it comes to A Wang, whether I'd feel so in real life is always a different story.
ReplyDeleteDress is great but looks so much better on the runway than on the model but I love the design! Great post dear xx
