With so many amazing ready-to-wear collections, it's easy to forget that there are also bridal collections, especially since not all of us are brides-to-be! Luckily, at the request of
Dear Girl, who is designing a wedding dress for her friend, bridal collections will no longer be forgotten. I will be taking a look at three very popular bridal designers: Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa and Vera Wang. This review will also mark the end of my Fashion Week Marathon.
Monique Lhuillier Bridal is just as beautiful as her RTW line, but for Fall 2012, I wouldn't consider walking down the isle in a lot of the dresses that she showed. The collection consisted of sparkling beaded bodices, light ruffled skirts, lacy fabric, and varying hemlines and silhouettes. This collection asserted that it's all in the intricate detailing. My favourite look has got to be the last photo.
Overall, I found the sweetheart necklines too repetitive, and not always the most flattering. However, the decorated shoulder straps were quite pretty. For someone like me who wants a simple, yet stunning ethereal wedding dress, all the embellishment isn't very appealing. But for a girl who wants a bit of drama, this collection could well be for her!
Marchesa's Bridal Fall 2010 consisted of organza and tulle floral motifs, and jeweled detailing overtop relatively spare bodices. All the dresses were floor length, except for one mini dress, and the overall look was that of a soft, quiet presence. My favourite goes out to the fourth photo.
And finally, no bridal review is complete without Vera Wang. Surprisingly, her collection for Spring 2011 doesn't quite match up to Marchesa, and in the end, my favourite collection goes to Marchesa. But as for Vera Wang, she went with a collection full of structural expertise, limited floral embellishment, and soft edges. My favourite dress is the second purple one.
While the architectural organza requires a lot of skill, I find that sometimes the shapes are more fashion than bridal. I do like the softness of the whole collection though. But whichever collection catches your fancy the most, there's no doubt that when your husband sees you walking towards him in any of these dresses, he'll think he's marrying an angel - that is, if he doesn't already.

All these dresses are so beautiful! I always imagine myself to wear a mini dress for my wedding but that last dress from Vera Wang has completely changed my mind! If you're going to do a model feature, can I request for Anabela Belikova? This girl is in EVERY fashion show but she hardly opens any which is a shame because I think she's incredibly beautiful. I would love to know more about her. xoxoxooo
ReplyDeletebeautiful dresses!

While I can't say that I would walk down the aisle in any of the pieces, I do find that the Monique Lhuillier Bridal Collection was my favorite. The aesthetics are a bit different than the norm. :)
ReplyDeleteaww everything is so enchanting and beautiful, except i don't really favor the short gowns though!
ReplyDeleteLovely and romantic ! The grey one is my favorite !

Ooh I always love dreaming of my future wedding dress! Unfortunately my Mom seems set on the idea of me wearing her wedding dress...anyway, not all these looks appeal to me. I find the Marchesa and Monique Lhuillier collections a little overdone on beading and unneeded adornments. Vera Wang, although excessive in textural architecture, is still my favorite bridal designer because I just love the soft, flowly fabrics she uses.
ReplyDeleteI agreee about Lhuillier... Sometimes its shows seem to have the same shape and aestethic, in this case the looks are too boring. Maches is something that is always chic amd also here is really amazing ;) wang, even if it's considered as a good designer in bridal gowns has a style that i don't like at all. I suggest you tosee McQueen and Lanvin bridal gowns (available on netaporter for instance...): Ithink that these brands purpose some of the most interestin ideas in this "fashion area" ;)

whoa lady...those are all SO BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteMonique Lhuillier always has some really pretty dresses but Oh my...Vera Wang is my dream dress..... I want!!! Marchesa for for me is a bit too "red carpet-y" (that might not be a real word but you get what i am saying), like not for a social setting.
ReplyDeletewonderful, I cannot pick one! I am so honored for this request granted!=) Marchesa's first is my fave but I cannot imagine how the design was made!!Vera Wang's grey and brown are sophisticated...Thank you so much, i did not expect it to be posted to soon, you are a good writer when it comes to time=)
ReplyDeleteA fitting end to your fashion week marathon. I haven't commented much lately but I have read your posts with great interest, and I am so thankful for them, keeping me up to date with everything from the shows. If you ever think of posting about wedding dresses again, I should love you to cover Jenny Packham, whose designs I often fall in love with (RTW as well as wedding dresses).

I love Monique Lhuiller! Her designs are always so beautiful! And I am definitely in love with the purple one. Makes me think of having a colored dress instead of the traditional white when I get married someday :p

so many gorgeous gowns! how does one pick?
ReplyDeleteThe first Marchesa dress makes me want to get married this year : l I also like the last dress by Vera Wang.
ReplyDeleteI like elements of each collection, but I can't say I like any single collection as a whole. Which makes sense, as every bridal designer will try to create several pieces that would suit different type of women. I do like Lhuillier's use of ruffles though. That detailing is exquisite.
ReplyDeleteOh that third dress is PERFECTION!
ReplyDeleteThese dresses are absolutely gorgeous!
