Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2011 RTW

With this being the second main collection that Sarah Burton has handled, it's already evident that Burton is one talented woman.  I knew back in Spring 2011 that she would do just fine at the head of Alexander McQueen, and she is not proving me wrong.  For Fall/Winter 2012, Burton stripped everything down to a certain purity by working with the label's classic shapes and detailing, and presenting it all in a clean colour palette.  The show stared off with flickering neon lights, resembling something you would experience in a classic horror movie asylum.  Then as all the lights flashed on (blinding a couple of front-row attendees), the first few looks came out as white as snow, complete with zipper detailing and soft fur:
In a great way to transition between white and black, Burton firstly brought out some gray creations:
It then became clear that Burton had looked towards bondage for inspiration, as harnesses wrapped intricately about:
There were then pieces in organic-looking fabric, that seemed to be held together by mere threads, mirroring some of the lace-up boots:
As the show neared its end, there were soft dresses made from fur and organza, in silhouettes that have become the house's signature.  Two of the dresses were fashioned with broken glass bodices.
With one last quick reference to bondage, Burton finished it off with tight bodices and wide, dramatic skirts.
Burton is no longer seen as simply a successor; she is quickly becoming seen as Alexander McQueen.  We can all rest assured that the label is in very good hands.

  9. Hi Angelica! It's definitely one of my favorite Mcqueen's collections! The white dresses are just so dreamy and there is an air of authority on the runway. Very powerful! I can't wait to read your Philip Lim review and yes, I remembered that Tommy Ton's request I asked! If you're planning on doing a model's feature soon, can I request Fei Fei Sun? :-) xoxoxoo

  11. Brilliant, Angelica, absolutely brilliant. McQueen is such a ground-breaking, envelope-pushing label, and Burton has adhered to this brilliantly. She has followed an absolute legend, and done so very well. All credit to her. McQueen is in very good hands, and I look forward to Burton's future work just as much as I love her present.

  18. I start from your last sentence: you're right this is the thing that I thought (sometimes it looks as we "read minds each others")and I'm really happy that McQueen is one of the few brand that has a right heir that goes on with the style of the "original designer" and improves it.... i think that Sarah is not only making wonderful dresses and show but is, in a certain way, improve the style fo the maison.

In this show, my favourite dresses are the studded ones and the use of feathers in general, the shoes (the wedges, especially( are great too!

  21. I liked the collection, though it didn't blow me away like the previous ones did. She's definitely staying close to the McQueen aesthetic. I wonder if she would ever dare try something new. Gorgeous dresses, but I think the harnesses were a bit too contrived.

  24. Amazing collection, and one of my top three from Paris Fashion week. In this collection my favorite is number 2, if you can find the HQ the details on that piece is perfection.

PS: Thanks Angelica for the lovely message, we are holding on to very little hope but I think the situation will start to stabilize as soon as the after shocks dissipate.

  25. Wow, I'm so impressed. There is so much beauty and awe-inspiring elements, that I find myself just staring at each look and soaking it all in. Counting down, my favourites are #1, 7, 11, 15, & 16. The last 2 dresses are also very elegant and almost look like wedding dresses! Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeousness.

  27. Wow, as always McQueen has a drop-dead amazing show. I think Burton has done a terrific job filling the large shoes McQueen left and also adding new, interesting elements of her own taste rather than repeating looks of the past. Lovely clothes!
