Scopic Magazine Contest Opportunity

Note: this contest is now closed.  Thanks to those who entered!

As some of you may know, I am the Fashion Editor Intern for Scopic Magazine (scopicmag.com).  Currently, Scopic is holding a contest for a winter outfit feature.  We are looking for bloggers to send us their best winter outfit (even from last year!), from which we will choose 5 winners based on audience selection and commitee review to feature in the magazine.

All photos will be uploaded to the Scopic, LLC Facebook page under the album Winter Magazine Feature Contest, where users can then vote by "liking" their favourites.

What we require:
1) Full Body Shot
2) Name / Blog Name
3) Age
4) Occupation
5) URL

Winter outfit photos can be submitted to submissions@scopicmag.com.  Deadline for submissions is November 5, and voting goes from November 6 - 11.

Contest starts now!  And look out for the next issue of Scopic Magazine, as we will be featuring Project Runway contestant, Becky Ross, and Portland Fashion Week 2011!

Edit: This contest is now open to everyone, not just bloggers!

Caroline Trentini

At the request of Fashion Cappuccino, Caroline Trentini is up next on this blog's model feature!
Caroline is a Brazilian model who was discovered by the same scout that discovered Gisele.  She is best known for her oblong freckled face, which gives her an elfin look.  Along with a unique face, she's been praised to have been graced with a fabulous body, making it no surprise that she's a Victoria's Secret model.
She likes to keep it strong in fashion spreads, with a tendancy to use her eyes to give a confident glare.
There aren't many photos of her off-duty, but Caroline enjoys mixing loose silhouettes with tighter pieces, and she never gives up a good opportunity to show off her model legs.
Caroline was last seen with a small appearance at the Spring/Summer 2012 RTW shows:
Rodarte
Anna Sui
If there are any other models you would like to see featured, just give me a shout!

Top 13 Stylish Celebrities

This post, like all my other posts from the past couple months, is long overdue.  I would love to write about the latest Spring/Summer collections, but I am ashamed to say I have barely had the time to follow up on them.  Obviously there will be no Fashion Week Marathon on my blog, but I will be making a post about the collections eventually, and let me know if there are any collections you want to see reviewed!

For now, I'd like to share the last article I wrote over the summer for the youth magazine.  It was an extremely fun article to research and write, and quite ironic considering I'm not a fan of celebrity fashion.  Yet I've realized that in fashion, you can have a personal style and you can critisize certain looks (oh let's be honest here, aren't we always judging in fashion?), but you have to have a certain appreciation and acceptance of all kinds of fashion.  So that's what I did when I wrote my last article, titled Top 13 Stylish Celebrities.  And just to note, I actually personally do not like Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, or Justin Bieber, but considering the audience of my article, I decided to add them in due to popularity.
To make this article even more special, a lovely girl wrote a Letter to the Editor referencing my article.  Nothing is better than knowing people have something to say about what you've written.  Over the summer, I remember writing on my blog that my time at this youth magazine would surely not be the last, and it seems my determination has paid off, as I am now writing for more publications than I ever have before.  I'm grateful for my position at Scopic Magazine (thank you DG), as well as all the publications at school that allow me to do what I love most.

Evanescent Metamorphoses

Karl Lagerfeld is one of the greatest people in fashion.  Out of all the designers in the world, he produces the highest number of collections per year, and even at the age of 77, there's nothing the Kaiser can't do.  It's well-known that Karl often makes his own films to go along with his collections, and I would like to bring one of these films to your attention.  I don't often watch fashion films, but this film that accompanies Chanel's Pre-Fall 2012 collection, called Evanescent Metamorphoses, is able to, in two short minutes, capture the essence of Chanel.  In the film, model Kristina Salinovic transforms from androgynous to feminine in a series of dream-like metamorphoses.

Despite the stark contrast of the first masculine look with the last ladylike look, every single outfit featured in the film is true to the image of Chanel.  Coco Chanel revolutionized fashion with her masculine suits, and this is demonstrated in the first half of the transformation with biker look that Karl has integrated into Chanel, and the classic Chanel tweed jackets.  And although Chanel's fashions took inspiration from menswear, there continued to be a certain feminine sophistication in her designs.  This is seen in the second half of the film with the jewelry, sheer fabric, and ruffles.  The Chanel woman has always been about these two opposites, and Karl effectively gives life to this in the film.  Aside from being a designer, Karl Lagerfeld is an artist, a celebrity, a photographer, a director...and the list goes on.  He might not know it, but he's constantly going through his own metamorphosis.
